TITLE:
Personnel Preparation in Special Education, Early Intervention, and Related Services

AGENCY:
U.S. Department of Education (ED); Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)

ITEM:
Notice seeking applications to (1) help address State-identified needs for personnel preparation in special education, early intervention, related services, and regular education to work with children, including infants and toddlers, with disabilities; and (2) ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge, derived from practices that have been determined through scientifically based research and experience, to be successful in serving those children.

ACTION:
Applications are due April 8, 2014. Approximately up to $250,000 is available for each award. Nine awards expected for Focus Area A; 13 for Focus Area B; nine for Focus Area C; 19 for Focus Area D.

TITLE:
Broadening Participation in Engineering

ITEM:
Notice seeking proposals for two tracks: 1. The BPE Opportunity Track (BPE-OT) establishes mentoring, networking, and other career development opportunities for anyone intending to pursue or already employed as an early career engineering faculty member. This track includes projects for developing graduate student pathways to the doctorate, and through that, to post-doctoral and faculty positions. 2. BPE Strategy Track (BPE-ST) projects should explore, develop and implement research-based strategies that promote a more diverse engineering workforce.

ACTION:
Proposals have a target date of May 1, 2014. PIs are strongly encouraged to speak to a cognizant program officer to obtain guidance.

Description – Through their support for public education, Lowe’s is closing the funding gap facing many schools today. Each year Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants program contributes more than $5 million to fund improvements at public schools in the United States. Projects should fall into one of the following categories: technology upgrades, tools for STEM programs, facility renovations and safety improvements.
